Pot grower sentenced
San Andreas, CA Sept 15, 2005 -- Vallecito medical marijuana grower Bill Roth Harrison will serve up to 16 months in prison under a sentence announced this week.
The Calaveras County District Attorney's Office announced that Harrison plead guilty to growing marijuana to avoid a longer sentence of up to two years if the case had gone to trial.
Counting time served, Harrison could be released in eight months.
A Calaveras County sheriff's deputy reported that Harrison had more than 33 marijuana plants and more than 2 pounds of processed marijuana. Officers said the plants could have produced 21 pounds of the dried drug.
Harrison is a medical marijuana user. He suffers from vertigo and pain and was permitted under local rules to grow up to six plants.
