Tuolumne County Approves California's Medical Marijuana ID Program
BJ Hansen My Mother Lode
Sonora, CA Mar 14, 2007 -- Supervisor Teri Murrsion had the task of casting the deciding vote on whether to implement the state's medical marijuana identification card program in Tuolumne County.
It is required by Senate Bill 420, however, last year it was not approved because of a two-two vote. Supervisors Liz Bass and Paolo Maffei were in favor, while Mark Thornton and Dick Pland were against. Now that a fifth supervisor is in place, it was Bass' recommendation to bring the issue back up for a vote.
During the meeting, Murrison said, “I think it is very important to be in compliance with state law.” She went on to say, “Certainly it is not a statement in favor of decriminalization of marijuana, and it is not a statement that people who are in pain don't need this…this is what the law says that we have to do, and as leaders I believe that we have to obey the law.”
The motion was approved three-two.
