Pot cafe suspects choose jury trial
Vancouver, British Columbia Dec 16, 2004 -- Three of eight people accused after a police raid on a Vancouver marijuana cafe want a jury trial.
The choice was made by Da Kine Cafe owner Carol Gwilt and two former staff members, Stephanie Liatopoulos and Michelle Muller.
They and five others were arrested in September when police moved in on the east Vancouver cafe that was allegedly selling marijuana.
All eight have been charged with trafficking and possession of marijuana.
Outside court Thursday, Gwilt called the police raid a "terrorist attack."
She faces a second jury trial for an arrest a week after the raid when police stopped a vehicle she was in and allegedly discovered marijuana and $10,000 cash.
A preliminary hearing has been set for November 2 next year. No date has been set yet for the jury trial.
