Calif. DMV puts brakes on driving test for medical marijuana user
Sacramento, CA Dec 23, 2004 -- The California Department of Motor Vehicles has postponed a driver's license test for a medical marijuana user after her lawyer claimed she was being unfairly targeted.
DMV spokesman Bill Branch says the agency is reviewing the case of Diane Monson, an Oroville accountant with a medical pot case before the U-S Supreme Court.
Monson's case before the Supreme Court will determine whether federal agents can seize pot grown by users in states where it can be legally prescribed as medicine. Monson takes the drug to relieve back pain.
California law allows people to grow, smoke or obtain marijuana for medical needs with a doctor's recommendation.
Other states with such laws are Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.
